My name is Johnathan Arculeo. I would like to start out by welcoming you to my blog Tails of the Lagoon! From a young age, I have been absolutely fascinated with fishing. As I’ve grown, that fascination has developed into an obsession. These days, the target of my infatuation is the Mosquito Lagoon. The lagoon itself and the sea monsters she gives birth to, keep me coming back time and time again. I have been fortunate enough to fish this system for quite a number of years now. In those years, pulling in my fair share of the coveted red fish and speckled sea trout that the lagoon is famous for.
It’s not possible to attain the knowledge of every fish, species, system, estuary, water body, etc. I would rather not be the jack of all trades. Instead, a master at one. I intend fully on applying my time, more so than I already have to learning this water body in all of its intricacy. Also, the fish that swim in it. In particular the sea trout and the red fish.
It started with red fish. The quality they provide to me? their absolute power. Once hooked, the brute strength of the animal becomes clear. It is because of this I started taking an interest in in-shore fishing and steered away from bass. The sea trout on the other hand was different. I had caught gator trout in the past, but they were few and far between. They were always a byproduct of fishing for reds. It wasn’t until I realized the mythical beast could be obtained on purpose, that they became the center in which my fishing world revolves around.
Fishing helps me make sense of the world and all of the suffering we must endure in order to orient ourselves within it. Nothing other than the fish matter. Anything and everything else I could have on my mind or going on in life, simply bleeds away. What I am left with is this laser sharp focus on trying to get the bite! It’s the purist form of what I could consider ultimate meaning.
This blog is simply an extension of my fishing. A way to communicate my thoughts, theories, observations, tips, tricks, techniques and questions in regards to in-shore fishing. It focuses on the two fish especially that have fueled this passion. Also, the best ways that I I have found in my experience to haul them over the gunnels, fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon specifically.
So as you navigate your way through this blog, please enjoy. I hope anyone in pursuit of the beauty that lies beneath the shallows of our coastal waterways can find this enlightening, fun, and most of all, useful in some capacity. Thank you again for visiting and tight lines!
